Ballyroan Library

South Dublin County Council has officially received funding approval from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to proceed to the detailed design and tender stage of the Ballyroan Library refurbishment project. The provisional timeline for the project anticipates that builders will be on site in the Summer of 2011 with a completion date of Autumn 2012. During the build replacement library services will be offered to the local communities through Whitechurch Library, mobile libraries and if required, additional local venues.

The new Ballyroan Library will be built in the most cost effective manner in order to unlock and transform the space to facilitate delivery of a vibrant, 21st century, flexible community facility. The new building will be 1434 sq metres (15,435 square feet) in size.

The vision for the new Ballyroan Library provides for an open, inclusive public place for people to gather, learn, share ideas with each other, and experience the best in contemporary literature, information access and culture.  The content will be as broad a possible – books, reference material, arts, local history, family learning, museum exhibits, film, music and events; offering something for all ages and interests alongside state of the art ICT technologies. In addition customers will be offered express-lending facilities, family-friendly spaces (including baby-changing), art/literary events, storytelling and much more.

I wish to draw to your attention the possibility of some tree planting being carried out, but it has to be requested through a Residents Association.  The Council will supply a RA with the name of a grower and a list of trees available for planting.  The RA must remit the money for the tree/s to the grower, who in turn will inform the Council during the growing season and deliver the trees to the Council for planting.  Tress cost in the region of 40-50 Euro.
